When the blade hits the roller, unlike the steel roller, it is not completely destroyed, allowing the sawing process to continue. The collided blade can be reworked during sharpening. The recessed mounting screw allows the last saw cut to be set deeper when the side support is angled, increasing wood yield and avoiding contact with the blade.
